Why We Love Elephants

We ordered Sam’s nursery bedding today and I have to say it’s absolutely adorable! The theme of his nursery will be elephants. Elephants are very special to us for many reasons. The first and most obvious is our love for Alabama Crimson Tide football… ROLL TIDE!

Elephants are also very special to me because of my longtime love for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. Working at St. Jude for nearly 5 years now, I have had the opportunity to meet so many special patients and families that have touched my heart. If you’ve ever been to or driven by the Target House (long-term housing facility for patients who are being treated at St. Jude for 90 days or more), then you’ve seen the gorgeous elephant fountain in front. Elephants can be seen throughout both TH1 and TH2 for several reasons:

• They are believed to bring good luck.
• They have high retentive memories, symbolic of the amazing medical research performed at St. Jude.
• They live in families. If something happens to one family member, another family will take care of the affected family for life. This is symbolic of how St. Jude takes care of our siblings and families.
• They live for a very, very long time.

We couldn’t think of a more perfect theme for Sam’s new space. As an added bonus, the bedding is from Pottery Barn Kids (St. Jude corporate partner!) and completely precious.

While the walls and accessories won't look exactly like this, you have a general idea! Mommy’s friend Jennifer Casey is coming over next weekend to help us begin painting Sam’s room. Before and after pictures to come!
